Supporting the sustainable growth of impact companies linked to the sea
What is Impact Océan Capital?
🔎 A €50 million investment fund (still open for subscription), dedicated to investing in maritime companies with sales between €0 and €20 million. These companies must have a positive impact (or a substantial reduction in impact) on the energy transition and the protection of biodiversity. The aim is to reduce the impact of human activities, act for the climate and help companies in the maritime sector to grow.
Why take part in the environmental transition…
and protect biodiversity?
The IMO (International Maritime Organization) estimates that maritime transport (the source of 90% of international trade) is responsible for 3% of global CO2 emissions. However, if the industry fails to make major changes, the strong growth seen over the last few years could increase CO2 emissions by as much as 130%.
With its 11 million km², France is the world’s second largest maritime area after the United States. This immense maritime space endows France with a rich marine biodiversity, a real asset to be preserved.
Although paradoxically still little-known, marine environments remain under serious threat from human activities: overexploitation of resources, pollution, degradation of marine habitats and the effects of climate change. The impacts of this sector of activity on biodiversity and on the environmental transition are therefore numerous. That’s why companies need to work together (and now) to protect and conserve marine environments !
At GO CAPITAL, we believe that the transition will take place through the development of services (and products) brought to market by innovative companies. To ensure a real, large-scale impact, we are heavily involved in the blue economy. To date, our management company has 3 funds (under delegated management on behalf of Banques Populaires) specializing in blue growth: Litto Invest, Mer Invest, et Sud Mer Invest. As a result, we benefit from our location in the heart of the marine economy ecosystems (Brittany, Pays de la Loire, Normandy, South). Our portfolio of some thirty financed companies bears witness to our commitment to this market.
Three impact targets for investments:
– Carbon-free transport
– Renewable marine energy (excluding infrared)
– Energy and operational efficiency
– Maritime and river modal shift
– Water treatment
– Waste treatment
– Ecosystem protection
– Pollution control
– Aquaculture, Seaweed and Sustainable Fishing
– Valorization of by-products
– Food and pharmaceutical biosourcing
At the heart of the Agenda 2030 are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They cover the full range of development issues in all countries, such as climate, biodiversity, energy, water, poverty, gender equality, economic prosperity, peace, agriculture, education and more.
Ensure universal access to reliable, sustainable, and modern energy services at an affordable cost.
Develop resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.
In addition to these four main objectives, the Impact Océan Capital fund also covers the following six SDGs:
“The portfolio and the tickets targeted by the fund
💰 Impact Océan Capital aims to support projects in their development strategy. It will invest an average ticket of 2 million euros (ranging from 1M€ to 3M€) in impact-driven companies in the maritime sector.”
“A field team distributed across the territory
👥 To be closer to ecosystems and businesses, our experts are based in the heart of the regions and travel regularly. Each expert also has expertise in the targeted sectoral areas and significant investment experience. This dual operational and strategic skill set allows them to best understand the technologies, their development potential, and anticipate any regulatory challenges for the portfolio companies.”
