ONCE AGAIN – PORTRAIT
The truth has been known for a long time: the fashion industry is one of the most polluting in the world. Indeed, the use of raw materials (cotton, water, petroleum for polyester production) as well as the manufacturing of garments (dyeing and chemicals) have a harmful effect on the environment. Furthermore, with the rise of fast fashion, the lifespan of clothing has been significantly reduced, and its potential for reuse is underutilized. It is precisely with the goal of addressing these issues that Michaël HARMANT and Anthony BODERIOU partnered in 2016 to create ONCE AGAIN.
An Offer Positioned in a Consistently Growing Market
ONCE AGAIN is an e-commerce platform for buying and selling second-hand branded clothing (online thrift store). Based in Orléans, the startup operates in a market that already generated over €1 billion in revenue in 2019. Boosted by the health crisis, the second-hand trend saw a major rise in 2020.
“With Once Again, our goal is to reduce the environmental impact of the textile industry, position ourselves against fast fashion, and meet the growing desire of the French to consume more responsibly. We also saw a 100% increase in 2020,” says Anthony Boderiou, President of Once Again.
A Trusted Intermediary, Ensuring Quality and Authenticity of Items
The strength of ONCE AGAIN lies in offering weekly collections with strict quality and authenticity controls. To achieve this, the company has developed automated IT tools using imaging and recognition technologies dedicated to this process.
Opening a Physical Store in Orléans
To support its growth, Once Again plans to recruit new employees by the end of 2021. Expansion of storage space is also on the agenda, with the construction of a 1,200 m² mezzanine within the existing warehouse. In early June, the company opened its first store in Orléans. This initiative is still part of an eco-responsible approach, with the creation of a short transport circuit. The items are bought and sold directly in-store, thus reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
